Infamous Quotes of the Glorious PAP

Submitted by an anonymous reader via email.

"If I have to shoot 200,000 students to save China from another 100 years of disorder, so be it."

- MM Lee Kuan Yew endorsing the Tiananmen Square massacre, Straits Times, Aug 17,2004

-----------------------------------

"If you are a troublemaker...it's our job to politically destroy you. Put it this way. As long as JB Jeyaratnam stands for what he stands for - a thoroughly destructive force - we will knock him. Everybody knows that in my bag I have a hatchet, and a very sharp one. You take me on, I take my hatchet, we meet in the cul-de-sac."

- SM Lee Kuan Yew, The Man And His Ideas, 1997

----------------------------------

"I am often accused of interfering in the private lives of citizens. Yes, if I did not, had I not done that, we wouldn't be here today. And I say without the slightest remorse, that we wouldn't be here, we would not have made economic progress, if we had not intervened on very personal matters - who your neighbour is, how you live, the noise you make, how you spit, or what language you use. We decide what is right. Never mind what the people think."

- PM Lee Kuan Yew, Straits Times, 20 April 1987
----------------------------------

"If you don't include your women graduates in your breeding pool and leave them on the shelf, you would end up a more stupid society...So what happens? There will be less bright people to support dumb people in the next generation. That's a problem."

- PM Lee Kuan Yew, National Day rally, 1983

-----------------------------------

"I make no apologies that the PAP is the Government and the Government is the PAP."

- PM Lee Kuan Yew, 1982, Petir (in 'Parties and Politics,' Husin Mutalib)

------------------------------------

As Leader of Ruling Party:

"We must encourage those who earn less than $200 per month and cannot afford to nurture and educate many children never to have more than two... We will regret the time lost if we do not now take the first tentative steps towards correcting a trend which can leave our society with a large number of the physically, intellectually and culturally anaemic."

- Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, 1967

---------------------------------------

"If I were in authority in Singapore indefinitely without having to ask those who are governed whether they like what is being done, then I would not have the slightest doubt that I could govern much more effectively in their interests."

- Mr Lee Kuan Yew, 1962

----------------------------

"Repression, Sir is a habit that grows. I am told it is like making love-it is always easier the second time! The first time there may be pangs of conscience, a sense of guilt. But once embarked on this course with constant repetition you get more and more brazen in the attack. All you have to do is to dissolve organizations and societies and banish and detain the key political workers in these societies. Then miraculously everything is tranquil on the surface. Then an intimidated press and the government-controlled radio together can regularly sing your praises, and slowly and steadily the people are made to forget the evil things that have already been done, or if these things are referred to again they're conveniently distorted and distorted with impunity, because there will be no opposition to contradict."

- Lee Kuan Yew as an opposition PAP member speaking to David Marshall, Singapore Legislative Assembly, Debates, 4 October, 1956

-----------------------------

"I pointed to an article with bold headlines reporting that the police had refused to allow the PAP to hold a rally at Empress Place, and then to the last paragraph where in small type it added the meeting would take place where we were now. I compared this with a prominent report about an SPA rally. This was flagrant bias."

- Lee Kuan Yew complaining about the Straits Times in 1959.

-------------------------------

3rd May 06 - Lunchtime Election Rally

"Right now we have Low Thia Khiang, Chiam See Tong, Steve Chia. We can deal with them. Suppose you had 10, 15, 20 opposition members in Parliament. Instead of spending my time thinking what is the right policy for Singapore, I'm going to spend all my time thinking what's the right way to fix them, to buy my supporters votes, how can I solve this week's problem and forget about next year's challenges?"

Lee Hsien Loong

Last night, MM Lee issued a
statement to retort Sylvia Lim's
remark that the WP may consider a law suit in the future. It was obvious to me that the MM's retort had just come in.

I saw the presenter shake as she read out the MM's statement. I read in her nervousness a fear, of losing her job, of being marked out for life if she did not do a good job at it.

At that moment, I felt at one with her. So many fears have we all had to live with in this land which we own. In this list of those afraid, I believe, also exists our current Prime Minister and his fear of failing, the system, his party & colleagues, and most importantly his father.

This cycle of fear that permeates all levels of our society, must be vanquished.

So I say now, I will fear no more. Come Saturday, I will mark X for the opposition and remove these demons that weigh on my shoulders.

And to our Prime Minister, I would like to say: Do not to be overly concerned about having more opposition candidates. It is not your failure, but a voice against a system that constructs fear. Once more opposition candidates come in, and it will happen sooner or later, a huge weight will be lifted off your shoulders and you too will be free to become leader of our nation in your own right. God bless Singapore.

Is LSL a wuss, a sissy? Begging people to give him a PAP full house so that he can think right for the country?

I am amazed that he believes he will be distracted from the greater issues if more opposition is present in Parliament. Looks like he's more concerned about PAP hegemony than running the country.

when he said that those above the age of 40 are not competent and therefore shall not earn more based on their experience. Soon, retrenchment starts and eventually more and more foreign investments withdrawn from sg, leading to further more retrenchments.

This is obviously a failure to know his country's demographic which the older population outweighs the younger population at large.

Though many jobs were created but the pay is so low, even lower than malaysia's as reported and our cost of living is higher than malaysia. So, many had to take up 2 jobs in order to make ends meet. this has also affected family lives as the parents will have to less attn and love for their children. As such, the children out of loneliness would, if mix with wrong party of friends, could become juvenile delinquents.

And in order to and eagerly wanting to restore the economy, to open two and not one casinos. But the problems of loanshark harrassment is a cause for concern as the police has no way of catching these culprits due to lack of evidence, which has been confirmed by the police station.

Recalled a family of 4 members committed suicide, a pregnant womanw as pushed and was miscarriage, an old woman was so fearful so much so that she quitted her job and dared not go out of her house while her tenant was worried and refused to rent her room. So, she is reported to be peniless and the police has to buy her food to eat. There are more reported and unreported cases of harrassment by the loansharks, not only to the borrowers but also family members.

Would all these pose more societal problems?

A right direction for the country?

He even told the citizens to accept pay cuts while he increased the pay for the President and some ministers during the economic downturn. Don't forget that he is earning a big fat pay.

He has a family of 4 or 5 members while the poor people also has their families too. To take a pay cut a certain % of pay cut, to the poor means alot while to a rich people like him, isn't a problem at all.

Is this what he called
"contentment is happiness" when people must suffer like this for his "right direction for the country" in his May Day Rally 2006?

And he pushed it to the reason of globalisation and SARS, etc. No doubt, these could be one of the reasons but the 1st world class has a price to pay - high cost of living.

The man's weakness is his mouth! This is great. He should be egged on and on, until he makes another "violent" comment.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm digging the ENTERTAINMENT

LKY - Live Long, and continue shooting yourself in the foot, the one that's in yer mouth.

There are those who admire him as a statesman. I think he's an bloody embarassment.

And to the people who still continue to support him, consider this:

How fortunate for leaders that men do not think. - Adolf Hitler

Heil Harry! PAP Über Alles!

Hatchet? What he doesn't know that is that little by little, he's giving us strips of paper which we'll use to make a gigantic papier mache rock that we'll then roll over him with.

"Three women were brought to the Singapore General Hospital, each in the same condition and each needing a blood transfusion. The first, a Southeast Asian [Malay] was given the transfusion but died a few hours later. The second, a South Asian [Indian] was also given a transfusion but died a few days later. The third, an East Asian [Chinese], was given a transfusion and survived. That is the X factor in development." – Lee Kwan Yew, 27 December 1967, addressing a meeting at the University of Singapore.

What founding father of S'pore - Bollax to him.
Lim Yew Hock would have carried us into Malaysia where I can enjoy a bit of farming and fishing right now. Instead I am so worried right now I got no money to pay for getting sick - thinking of committing suicide.

[yes, if you shoot 200,000 students...The riot will stop, but there will be more than 200,000 families casting HATE on you, and planning for revenge. Then...there will never be PEACE!

EVIL! Did he know that the China Communist Party has DISTORT CHINA's History, brainwash their citizens, curb their freedom.....so as to maintain their POLITICAL POWER! Selfish and evil thinking.....The CHINA COMMUNIST PARTY is even harvesting organs from Falungong members while they are still alive.

Don't tell me our LKY approve of that?

yeah, he even donated weapon to help the then ruler of Cambodia for the killings of their citizens too. 1/4 of cambodian citizens were wiped out then.]

Keep postin those "Pithy Lee'isms" folks. I'm so glad his words have been carefully documented.

Remember that Lee doesn't shoulder the bulk of the "blame".

Many, many people supported him and continue to support him. Without a fan base, a ROCK STAR can't exist.

Lee's fan's need to be reminded that they continue to support a bullying thug.

The notion that economic prosperity is best guaranteed by a totalitarian dictator who squashes all opposition and dissent must be changed, or the system will keep replicating itself.

I, for one, am not at all worried. We all know that the PAP will fall. I'm just anxiously waiting for that to happen.
