KeepVid

During the elections, there may be videocasts and podcasts of rallies on several websites. You may not wish to watch an entire hour's worth of streaming video at your workstation.

Today, I introduce to you KeepVid, a program that allows you to safe the entire video on the harddisk of your computer, so you can watch any videocast anytime, without an internet connection. You can, for example, download the google video of the recent MM Lee forum to your hdd and burn it to CDs for distribution: the possibilities are endless.

KeepVid supports Google Video, Youtube, putfile, Ifilm, and other websites with streaming video.

Recently mediacorp featured the Chinese govt introduced Panchen Lama in a religious conference. I would like to say that this Panchen Lama is not the "true" panchen lama. The true one has be captured and hidden by the chinese govt. Please read below:

Question: The Chinese have recently stated that the next D. Lama will be born in Tibet and chosen by them. What do you have to say about this?

Answer by Dalai Lama: If the present situation regarding Tibet remains the same, I will be born outside Tibet away from the control of the Chinese authorities. This is logical. The very purpose of a reincarnation is to continue the unfinished work of the previous incarnation. Thus if the Tibetan situation still remains unsolved it is logical I will be born in exile to continue my unfinished work. Of course the Chinese will still choose their own “D. Lama” and we Tibetans will choose our own according to tradition. It will be similar to the present situation of the Panchen Lama. There is a Chinese-appointed “Panchen Lama” and there is the Panchen Lama chosen by me (ie Dalai Lama). One is paraded to serve its master’s purposes and the other is the Panchen Lama accepted in the hearts of all the Tibetans.

Question: What are your commitments?

Answer by Dalai Lama: In general, I always state that I have three commitments in life. Firstly, on the level of a human being, my first commitment is the promotion of human values such as compassion, forgiveness, tolerance, contentment and self-discipline. All human beings are the same. We all want happiness and do not want suffering. Even people who do not believe in religion recognize the importance of these human values in making their life more happier. I remain committed to talk about the importance of these human values and share them with everyone I meet. Secondly, on the level of a religious practitioner, my second commitment is the promotion of religious harmony and understanding amongst different religious traditions. Despite philosophical differences, all major world religions have the same potential to create better human beings. It is therefore important for all religious traditions to respect one another and recognize the value of each other’s respective traditions. Thirdly, I am a Tibetan and carry the name of the Dalai Lama. Tibetans place their trust in me. Therefore, my third commitment is to the Tibetan issue. I have a responsibility to act the free spokesperson of the Tibetans in their struggle for justice. As far as this third commitment, it will cease to exist once a mutually beneficial solution is reached between the Tibetans and Chinese. However, my first two commitments I will carry on till my last breath.

Dalai Lama: Tibet Wants Autonomy, Not Independence
San Francisco, USA, 16 April 2006 (Amanda Bower; Time Magazine) The Dalai Lama's schedule is usually set seven years in advance, but the Tibetan spiritual leader made a rare change to his plans in order to attend a San Francisco conference convened by Muslim leaders to discuss religious tolerance. His Holiness, as Tibetans call him, spoke with Time's Amanda Bower about Islam, his hopes to return to his homeland after 47 years in exile, and his hobby of tinkering with timepieces.

Boarding Pass Botch-up (New Paper dd 16 apr 2006)

A businessman flew from sg to bkk using someone else's boarding pass and was cleared at 3 security checks:

Check No. 1 : Before engtering the restricted area
Check No. 2 : Immigration
Check No. 3: At the boarding gate

Last month, the businessman was mistakenly issued the boarding pass of another passenger at the Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) check-in counter at Changi Airport. However, he did not realise the error as he did not check it.

The error might not have been discovered if his travel agent did not call him the next day to say that he had to pa a "no-show" fee for missing his flight.

By then, he was travelling alone on a business trip, was already in Thailand.

When contacted, SAS said "the passenger was checked in under a wrong but very similar, name. The reason SAS did not detect the mistake at an early stage was bec the other passenger did not show up. It was purely a human error and the matter is under investigation."

But the businessman said: "For me, it's a big issue and a security problem. Sg has invested so much in security, but this lapse still happened."

He wondered if the mistake could have been spotted if he had used his passport instead of his access card.

A lesson to learn:
Always check your boarding pass.

Recap: The Vietnamese lady who came in with a fake passport and worked as a call girl but died recently.

Another incident also happened with a Chinese woman who was captured in sg for selling porno CDs and DVDs and sent back home twice. Again, she came shortly with a fake passport and was again captured.

All these made me think how tight is our security?

Dalai Lama: Politics, Religion Equal Violence -
'Don't blame the prophet Muhammad'

Jerusalem, 16 February 2006 (Ynet News)
--------------------------------------------------------
Tibetan Diaspora leader arrives in Israel, says he hopes to advance dialogue, human warmth in area of conflict.

Describing the purpose of his visit as bringing harmony to the area, he said he did not come to talk about the situation of Tibet.

During a press conference, the Dalai Lama said the purpose of his visit was to advance humane values and warmth, as well as dialogue instead of violence, as a necessary condition for peace.

But the harmony was pushed aside when the Tibetan leader was immediately thrown into the cold waters of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and asked whether Israel should conduct negotiations with Hamas.

The Dalai Lama described the question as obstructive, adding that it was too early to answer it. He quickly added that the Hamas won the majority, and that democratic elections must be respected. Addressing Hamas, he added that it's best to talk, saying he wanted to enjoin them into that belief.

The Tibetan leader said that if, during his visit in Bethlehem, Hamas members would want to meet him, he would gladly oblige.

In the course of the conference, the Dalai was asked to speak about global Islamic terrorism, the crisis over cartoons of Islam's prophet Muhammad, and the wave of rage which followed them.

'Don't blame the prophet Muhammad'

The prophet Muhammad should not be blamed for the violence, said the Dalai Lama, adding that the problem is the lack of separation between politics and religion, a situation which creates violence because emotion is involved.

We must tell the whole world to talk and not to respond immediately. I have Muslim friends and they told me that anyone who calls themselves Muslim while causing blood to be spilled is not Muslim, he said.

The Dalai Lama pointed out the difference between Muslims and the policies of Muslim countries, and emphasized that as a Tibetan leader, he and his people differentiate between the Chinese people and the Chinese government.
