2006 Annual Meetings

Information for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs)

As of: June 28, 2006

UPDATED !!!!

The Annual Meetings of Boards of Governors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WB) have customarily been held in Washington, DC for two consecutive years and in another member country in the third year. In 2006, the Annual Meetings and related events will be held in Singapore between September 13-20.

All CSO representatives who wish to participate in the 2006 Annual Meetings will need to obtain formal accreditation. The accreditation system is fully web-based. It opened on June 2 and will close on August 4, 2006. If you are planning to attend the Annual Meetings, please apply for accreditation as early as possible. Please note that no applications will be accepted past the deadline.

As in previous years, the Civil Society Teams at the Bank and IMF will organize a Civil Society Forum for accredited CSOs during the 2006 Annual Meetings.

We would like to encourage representatives from established CSOs that focus on development issues and other issues relevant to the work of the World Bank and the IMF, and have a track record in these areas, to apply for accreditation.

Please note that at the present time the World Bank and the IMF do not have any funding to enable CSO participation in the Annual Meetings. Accredited CSOs are responsible for obtaining a visa, if necessary, to enter Singapore.

If you have any questions about the Annual Meetings and/or the accreditation Information on visa requirementsprocess, please contact us at: civilsociety@worldbank.org.

Gee, whatever happened to the idea of a FREE society?

The kind of society based on unlimited individual and private property rights?

...the kind of society where the consumer is sovereign, and where everyone can, if they so choose, benefit from globalisation, free markets, and freedom to choose almost anything one damn well pleases (even if it pisses other people off)

I order you to be happy
I order you to be creative
I order you to have more kids
I give you permission to protest, provided (a) you register first (b) use the space I reserved for you ...

gentlemen, whether or not people will even bother to demonstgrate during the IMF forum is not world shattering.

I would like to change the subject and touch on the Lebanon problems; I had imaged bloggers would have lifted their pens to comment about a situation which could have a shattering effect around the world unless the UN come up with a solution in next two weeks.

The UN has called for a peace keeping force to be based in Lebanon, I wonder how Asia looks at that and I am talking about,Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. You can leave out singapore, the government would never sanction their soldiers anywhere near a real war, when people use live bullets.

However, I believe Thailand and Malaysia have the courage to help.

This is certainly not an anati islam war, far from it, Israel are fighting terrorism.

some opinions and a litle duscussion please.

Is Israel fighting terrorism ?

The US department of defence's definition of terrorism:

The calculated use of violence or the threat of violence to inculcate fear; intended to coerce or to intimidate governments or societies in the pursuit of goals that are generally political, religious, or ideological.

Isn't Hezbollah doing exactly the same ?

anon 1 & 2 : Life in S'pore is not that bad. all you have to do to be "free" is to acknowledge you are free and not, under any circumstances listen to the govt, or anyone who'd presume "authority" over you.

I'm talking about being an ANARCHIST :-)

anon 3 & 4:

Screw the UN.

As far as defining what terrorism is, the US Defense Dept will do whatever it pleases as it is part of the most awesome and fearsome war machine mankind has ever known.

Before you go backing the real terrorists (Hezbollah, Hamas, Al Queda) just have a look at what those folks really get up to:
