A link to download Azureus (a bit-torrent client) is on the Singapore Rebel bittorent page.

Whether or not you think Dr. Chee Soon Juan is an effective opposition politician (whatever "effective" means in the context of gerrymandering, defamation suits, and total media control by the ruling party), here's a chance to raise the hackles of the gahmen. Download it, get your friends to download it (use the "email a friend" tools on this page). Burn CDs, share them. Distribute. Blog about it. Get your friends who are not Singaporeans to blog about it as well. Think of it as a form of viral marketing - not necessarily FOR Chee, but FOR freedom of speech, FOR opposition parties in general and AGAINST the PAP.

In some ways, I tend to agree with you to a certain extend. I, too, disagree with the "blanket" Act for political media coverage. Which basically "blankets" all media that are partisan and politically related.

As for Dr Chee...respect for him for his spirit. But he seriously needs some good public relations and a less reckless approach at things.

Less reckless approach huh...maybe his role in the context of Singapore's political landscape may not be to get elected or to be the one to lead the "uprise" against the PAP (in the sense of a viable opposition).

But rather to be the one that teaches us the value of speaking out critically even if it jars the ears of the listener.

If he even succeeds in that, I think, his contribution to the remergence of a political Singaporean will be in no small part.

"reckless" you would think that Dr Chee was Nelson Mandela, trying to start a violent revolution. Only in Singapore is standing on a street and handing out flyers, shouting at a politician, and being interviewed by foreign media considered 'reckless'.

As for having friends in Burma who are regarded as the second largest drugs cartel in the world, well that's perfectly 'normal'.

Is there any other possible way of getting hold of Singapore Rebel OTHER than bitorrent? This method doesn't seem to work at all probably because of my university network restrictions. Is there like a web-hosted file somewhere?

There was a web hosted file, but it was removed when Martyn See, the director, was questioned by the police. I have no idea who put it up or who removed it.

The mention of Nelson Mandela reminded me of a British journalist on the Straits Times foreign desk who has a South African wife who said to me that he and his wife wished to visit her homeland but for apartheid ... and the black/white male/female toilet situation ... I wonder if they cared who cleaned them there toilets ... (he was later transferred to the Malay paper in charge of design ... I asked him what the hell he was doing there when he didn't know Malay but he took it well). I hope he made his visit to South Africa.

I am reminded of Nelson Mandela and the black/white male/female toilet situation and the British journalist because I envisage the day where we may have a rich/poor male/female toilet situation on our hands.

In my army days I once had to siam a colonel because I was obliged to greet him but he was never one to respond ... so whenever it coincided that he was peeing when I went to the loo ... I ended up shouting "GOOD MORNING SAR" before slipping into a cubicle ... I dunno if I imagined it but it always interrupted the flow of his pee (yes, its 'pee', not 'chi').

No offense...mentioning Dr Chee in the same breath as Nelson Mandela is incongruous...

Look here thrasy, you probably belong to some socractic circle with a lofty Mensa intelligence quotient.

I'm not in your league. My Mensa intelligence quotient's only 123. IMH twice evaluated me as suffering from a delusional disorder. In between I passed my ACCA final three papers. Dr George Fernandez (shrink no. 2) warned me during one evaluation session (Dec 25, 2000; now, that's one hard working shrink with a criminally intimidating warning and no actual evaluation on a millenium Christmas Day) that if I didn't watch my words in Court, I'll be held in IMH forever. The two psychiatrists that evaluated me both ended up on overseas study leave.

Now I don't know what you mean by 'incongruous'? Is it that the size of their prick do not bear a similar ratio as compared to the length of their prison sentences. Or can you please explain?

Or maybe what you want to do is to pass me your spare pap-smear test-kit.

Or if you have a problem with your pet neuro-shrink, take it directly to him. Mine's all on overseas study leave.

The first time I heard someone make references to Dr Chee and Nelson Mandela was below...http://singabloodypore.blogspot.com/2004/09/dr-chee-and-nelson-mandela.html which I have reprinted below.

Dr Chee and Nelson Mandela
channelnewsasia.com

Responding to a question from the media on why he was sueing Dr Chee, Mr Lee said through his press secretary: "Mr Chee should learn from Nelson Mandela. Mandela played by the rules. He won because he fought constitutionally. Chee should play by the rules, then he may rally people around him. By breaking the rules and flouting the law, he is getting himself marginalised." - CNA

Yet again I fear that the ministers in Singapore are unaware of the power of their words. Surely Lee Kuan Yew is not advocating that Dr Chee really follow in Mandela's foot-steps. Here is a link to an article on Nelson. Mandela and an interesting issue is quoted directly...

[Mandela] was arrested and tried on charges of attempting to launch an armed struggle but the jury did not have enough evidence to pronounce him guilty and he was subsequently released. He later launched an armed struggle targeting the government. This aggressive approach eventually led to a sentence of life in prison in 1964.

Lee Kuan Yew is not advising Dr Chee to form an armed resistance movement you reply, thats just crazy talk, but to link the situation in Singapore with that of un-democratic and gerrymandered South Africa goes too far. Will the PAP be pressing charges against the M & M?

Incongrous? Comparing any 'phenomenon A' with 'phenomenon B' will always suffer from being incongruous. So who should Dr Chee be compared with?

IMH apparently farms out overseas study leave as Jimmy Carter would his peanuts ... now, I having trouble sleeping in case somebody should tell me mentioning IMH and Jimmy Carter in the same breath is incongruous ...
