EXECUTION OF CONVICTED DRUG TRAFFICKERS

Iwuchukwu Amara Tochi (Tochi), a 21-year old Nigerian was charged for importing into Singapore a controlled drug under section 7 of The Misuse of Drugs Act (Chapter 185). Okeke Nelson Malachy (Malachy), aged 35, stateless, was charged for having abetted the commission of the offence of importing into Singapore a controlled drug under section 7 read with section 12 of the Misuse of Drugs Act (Chapter 185). The Misuse of Drugs Act provides that the death penalty is mandatory if the amount of diamorphine or pure heroin imported exceeds 15g. Tochi had unlawfully brought into Singapore 727.02g of high grade pure heroin worth about $1.5 million.

The appeals of both Tochi and Malachy to the Court of Appeal and to the President for clemency have been turned down. Their sentences were carried out this morning at Changi Prison.

'Integrity' I am going to have go and get my dictionary out and look that word up. Someone must have recently changed its meaning because I see no 'integrity' in hanging one man who, as the judge confirmed, had no idea what he was carrying and secretly executing another man without informing anyone.

  1. OH YEAH!! SURELY SG GOVT OF FIRST WORLD CLASS SOCIETY OBVIOUSLY HAS HIGH INTEGRITY! ASHAMED TO BE A SINGAPOREAN.

Tochi was caught when he was 19. But EVEN if he was guilty of drug trafficking, he should NOT be sentenced to death because he was considered a MINOR. However, the case was only brought up when he was 21. In this respect, it was already UNJUSTIFIED to execute him at all!!!!!

So, Singapore juidicial system is A SHIT system.

Furthermore, the news of his sentenced to death was also announced over the news ONLY after he was hanged.

So, Singapore media is also a SHIT system.

AIDS is a deadly disease which is parallel to drugs.

Singapore has so many tourists working as illegal prostitutes who might be AIDS carrier. Shouldn't all these ppl be sentenced to death when caught??

Sg PM replied to Nigerian govt that he is "protecting his own citizens of Sg", may I ask Sg PM, how protected are we from these illegal prostitute who might be AIDS-carriers and do Sg's capital punishment cover in this respect???

Is AIDS as deadly as drugs???

  4. I just dunno what more to say. This is just so tiring. Death penalty upon death penalty. It's almost as if the mission of the Singapore government is to annihilate the little people while it merrily rejoices in its obscene pay packets.

  5. Please read Yawning Bread's article - http://www.yawningbread.org/arch_2007/yax-707.htm

"Firstly, Tochi was only 19 years old, with not much education. Was it safe to assume that he was familiar with the ways of the world, including the drug trade and the risks involved? Could he be expected to know that different countries view drugs with different degrees of severity?

How many Singaporeans at 19, educated or not, would be familiar with other offences around the world, e.g. petrol smuggling, the arms trade, transporting seditious literature or pornography, and the risks involved?

Secondly, the trial judge himself said there was no direct evidence that Tochi even knew that what he was carrying was heroin. Tochi had claimed throughout that he had been told it was a package of African herbs. However, the trial judge also said, Tochi ought to have inspected the package. His failure to inspect it suggested guilt.

Tochi's defence for not checking was that he had been told that herbs were of high value and he feared that if he opened the package, the buyer would then complain that the product had been tampered with and might have refused to pay or accept delivery of it -- not an unreasonable fear if you put yourself in a young man's shoes,

The judge dismissed this as incredible."

Please compare Tochi's ignorance with our 2 intelligent elites - minilee and his wife (PM OF 1ST WORLD CLASS SOCIETY), both a highly educated ppl who have travelled and seen the world, were being taken in by Thaksin to buy the shin corp shares.

In this respect, these elites' grave mistakes not only cause Sg to lose its billions of dollars but also the reputation of the country. Can the Singaporeans pardon these elites' stupid mistake out of greed where they (Sg govt) could not be able to accept the possible reason given by Tochi, who was a poor and low-educated man?

Similarily, our dear PM and his wife were taken in to buy Shin Corp shares. Do you think these intelligent elites were also ignorant of the laws of Thailand?
Weren't it also an excuse if they said they are ignorant of Thai law?
