History 101 of past riots, that has surely lent a hand in the creation of tight crowd control laws, the Sedition Act and such. But after 4 decades of peace, are Singaporeans mature enough to peacefully protest? I think so...
The smart malay man recounting how he evaded a chinese mob speaks freakishly good catonese..
The evidence is there. I don't experience normal everyday people all hung up about race such that they are always spoiling for a fight.
ReplyDeleteIt is ok to have racist thoughts and although I'm against racist speech (except in humour), I think that it should not be banned. I also believe that people are free to choose theeir associations— no one "has to" respect the race of another individual, but everyone is obliged not to initiate physical violence or force on another human being.
I occasionally have imaginations of someone in the state apparatus experiencing brutal and grusome deaths. BUT, I would never initiate that on any of them. However the occasional though is very entertaining, and if one has a guitar lying around, one can always pick it up and strum A7 D and sing "Die Motherfucker, Die" or something more imaginative alog the same lines...
